In September 2017 Bronkhorst High-Tech invited research institutes and departments to send in their most innovative Catalyst Research project to have a chance of winning free Bronkhorst® flow instruments for the set-up of their research project.
On November 30th, 2017 the jury appointed the Laboratory of Materials and Durability of Constructions (LMDC) in Toulouse as the winner of this competition. Mr. Topalov of the LMDC is working on a study about improving air quality through photocatalytic oxidation (PCO).
The price has been awarded to Mr. Topalov on February 22nd at Bronkhorst High-Tech in Ruurlo by Henk Tappel, Managing Director, and Fergus van Beek, Manager Marketing & Sales.
Air pollution has become a major problem worldwide. Not only outdoors, also the indoor quality in buildings is becoming rather poor. LMDC is studying degradation by photocatalysis, a more natural way of preventing air pollution, of some primal indoor air pollutants like nitrogen oxides (NOx) and certain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde (CH2O), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX).
By donating instruments and knowledge for this innovating project, Bronkhorst will contribute in LMDCs research towards a cleaner indoor environment. The Bronkhorst mass flow meters and controllers will be used in the reseach set-up to inject polluted and humidified air into a reactor containing photocatalytic material. Because of the low pollution levels, the mass flow controllers have to be very accurate. For this experimental set-up LMDC will use a Bronkhorst mini CORI-FLOW ML120 Coriolis flow meter, a CEM (Controlled Evaporation and Mixing system), an E-8000 read-out and control unit and a LOW-dP-FLOW thermal mass flow meter.
