“If I cycle home at the end of the day and feel that Bronkhorst’s IT has improved, that is what gives me job satisfaction."

The story

"My first introduction to Bronkhorst was in 2012, when I did an internship during my vocational IT program. I deliberately chose a large local company where technology and professionalism come together. After completing both my vocational degree and a bachelor’s in IT Business Management, I spent six years working at an IT service provider in the datacenter sector. It was challenging and educational, but over time I missed the personal connection with the people behind the work. The daily commute also became less appealing, and I liked the idea of cycling to work again. In September 2023, I returned to Bronkhorst as an IT System Engineer. From people I knew locally, I already understood the company remained a great employer. The only question was whether I would connect just as well with my new colleagues, which turned out not to be an issue at all. I have not regretted my decision for a moment."

Building and improving a global IT environment

"In my role, I help build and maintain the foundation of Bronkhorst’s IT infrastructure. Together with my colleagues, I ensure that networks, servers and identity systems function reliably, securely and efficiently across all global locations.

I apply the experience I gained in my previous role, including ITIL processes, business insight and broad technical knowledge. Since IT environments often share the same foundations, this allows me to contribute to a future proof and stable infrastructure.

Our team works closely together, each with a specific focus. On larger projects, we join forces to design the best solution. For smaller or routine tasks, I often work independently from start to finish.

My workday usually starts with checking systems, reviewing overnight processes such as backups and resolving any issues. The rest of my time is divided between planned projects, regular maintenance, ad hoc requests and continuous improvements such as updates, migrations and security enhancements.

One project I am especially proud of is the global network redesign. Over a period of one and a half years, we renewed the IT infrastructure across all locations. We introduced network segmentation, unified systems into one domain and improved access control. For colleagues, the impact was minimal, but behind the scenes, the improvement was significant. The environment is now more secure and easier to manage.

During this project, I also worked on site in Taiwan with a colleague. We experienced a local religious celebration on arrival and were warmly welcomed by our team there. Moments like these make international collaboration meaningful and memorable."

Growing through innovation and collaboration in IT

"Working in IT means constantly learning. For example, I recently worked on a major upgrade of our backup systems. This required careful preparation, risk assessment and close collaboration with colleagues and suppliers. Thanks to clear communication, we completed the upgrade successfully while maintaining continuity.

At Bronkhorst, change is constant and IT plays a key role in that. New technologies continue to emerge, which means I keep learning and improving every week. Together, we work on technical goals that strengthen both IT and the wider organization.

What I enjoy most is contributing to a high tech global company while working in a close knit team, just minutes away from home."
