How does a mass flow controller work?

The MFC first measures the flow rate using a built-in sensor, such as a thermal or Coriolis sensor, depending on the application. This measurement is compared to a set point—the desired flow rate. If the measured flow deviates, the MFC automatically adjusts an internal control valve to maintain the set flow rate.

A mass flow controller continuously monitors and regulates flow, making real-time adjustments to maintain precise control. This combination of measurement, control valve, and feedback electronics (PID control) ensures stability and accuracy in gas and liquid applications. Flow adjustments can be made electronically via voltage, current, or digital signals.

Mass flow controllers provide a dependable solution for processes requiring exact, real-time control of gas or liquid flow rates, enhancing system reliability and efficiency.
