Laboratory setup

A leading laboratory in heterogeneous catalysis and solid‑state chemistry turned to Bronkhorst for a dilution solution capable of handling both gas and liquid sources. The team required a system that could reliably generate extremely low VOC concentrations to be able to validate newly developed adsorbent materials and catalysts.

Application requirements

To conduct meaningful catalytic testing, the laboratory must generate precise and extremely low pollutant concentrations, ranging from ppm down to ppb levels, for compounds such as formaldehyde, toluene, chlorobenzene, trichloroethylene and butanol. These controlled concentrations must remain stable for periods that vary from a few hours to several weeks, depending on the test objective.

Important topics

01

Very accurate at ultra‑low concentrations levels

02

Highly stable and repeatable dilution performance

03

High flexibility

04

Fully integrated solution

Process solution

Bronkhorst supplied a tailor-made dilution module called DILAB, built on the CEM (Controlled Evaporation and Mixing) technology
The system integrates:

By combining liquid and gas handling in a single controlled platform, the DILAB system enables the generation of ultra‑low VOC concentrations in a stable and repeatable manner. It offers the flexibility to adapt to different liquids, each with unique evaporation behavior, as well as to a wide VOC concentration range from ppb to ppm. This allows the laboratory to meet increasingly strict emission simulation standards.

"It would be much more complicated to conduct long-term tests with a conventional system, whereas Bronkhorst's diluter enables the generation of a constant, continuous, and smooth flow of VOCs into the air. This is an undeniable advantage for validating our process."
